Balloon Sinuplasty in Hollywood, FL

Balloon Sinuplasty Hollywood FL About 11.7 million Americans suffer from chronic sinusitis, a condition that causes inflammation and swelling in the sinus passages for at least eight consecutive weeks. Chronic sinusitis can be caused by a deviated septum, an infection or the growth of nasal polyps. Those with this condition often find it difficult to breathe through their nose and may even experience facial pain and swelling.

Balloon Sinusplasty for Sinus Problems

While more conservative treatment plans may be created to lessen these symptoms, if Dr. David Jassir exhausts these measures and relief isn’t achieved, balloon sinuplasty may be recommended. This procedure is most often recommended for those who have tried all other forms of treatment without success.

What is balloon sinuplasty?

This procedure is performed in the comfort of our Hollywood, FL office with the use of a topical anesthesia. This anesthesia will be used to numb the nasal area before the endoscopy. A balloon sinuplasty is performed using a small balloon catheter that helps open up constricted and blocked nasal passageways and also drains mucus buildup.

How is balloon sinuplasty performed?

After the anesthesia is applied, we will use a guided wire to insert the balloon catheter gently into the inflamed sinus. Once inserted, the balloon will be inflated to enlarge the opening of the sinus cavity. The balloon then widens the sinus walls safely and effectively.

Before removal, saline is sprayed into the sinus to clean out any mucus that may be trapped. Once this is complete, the balloon catheter will be removed but the sinus passageways will remain open. The procedure requires no cutting or removal of bone or tissues, which is why only a topical anesthetic is needed.

What are the advantages?

Unlike traditional methods, this procedure allows patients to receive relief from their chronic sinusitis symptoms without the use of general anesthesia. This also means that the recovery period for patients will be shorter, with most patients returning to their normal activities within two days after the procedure. Plus, balloon sinuplasty can be done in our office, so you don’t have to worry about going elsewhere for care.
