FAQs about Hearing Aids

If you’re having difficulty hearing friends and family talking to you, it might be time to consider a hearing aid. Thanks to current technology, many hearing aids are discrete but still powerful enough to help you hear clearly. Here at South Florida ENT Associates in Hollywood and Pembroke Pines, FL, Dr. Johnathan Cooper and his team of ear nose and throat specialists can give you a hearing test and if necessary, help you choose a hearing aid.

Do I need a hearing aid?

If you are experiencing difficulty hearing to the extent that it’s affecting your daily life, you may need a hearing aid. For example, if you are finding it hard to communicate with people or your friends and family members have noticed that you are struggling to hear what they are saying.

Can a hearing aid restore my normal hearing?

Although a hearing aid can improve your current level of hearing, it cannot cure hearing loss. However, it can improve your hearing to a level where you will be able to communicate confidently.

How do I clean my hearing aid?

You should wipe down your hearing aid with a soft cloth daily to remove any earwax. Each time you change the battery, brush out the battery compartment to remove any trapped debris.

How often will I need to change my hearing aid batteries?

This will depend on several factors including the brand hearing aid you are using, which type of batteries it takes, and how often you are wearing it. Typically, small batteries will last about one week, while larger ones will last for two or three weeks.

What type of hearing aid should I choose?

After a hearing test at either our Hollywood or Pembroke Pines office, your hearing specialist will help you to decide which type of device is best suited to your needs.
