What to Expect During your Mini CT Scan

Find out how a mini CT scan works.

One of the best ways for our Hollywood, FL, ENT doctors at South Florida ENT Associates to diagnose conditions impacting the sinuses or ears is through our mini CT scan. This diagnostic tool helps us to capture images inside the nose and ears to find out what’s causing your symptoms as quickly as possible.

What does a mini CT scan show?

CT scans can capture images of the organs and systems inside the body in a similar way to x-rays. A CT scan provides 3D images of the sinuses and the ears so that we can better examine the bones and tissue to look for signs of cancerous and noncancerous growths, fractured bones, diseases, bleeds and other injuries. A mini CT scan can provide our Hollywood, FL, ENT team with detailed and high-resolution images of the sinus cavity so that we can make an accurate diagnosis.

What are the benefits of a mini CT scan?

A mini CT scan is an incredible diagnostic tool for our patients because it now makes it possible to get a full scan in about 10 to 20 seconds (sometimes shorter for kids). Instead of having to lie inside of a scanner, where some patients may feel too enclosed and claustrophobic, this device provides an open design where the patient sits comfortably while the head of the imaging device scans the patient’s face only once to get the necessary images. Being able to have this system in-office means that patients get the diagnosis and treatment they need right away without having to go to a hospital to have a CT scan. You also no longer have to wait to get results.

Some patients worry about the radiation that can be emitted during these imaging tests, but patients will be happy to hear that the MiniCat emits very trace amounts of radiation (about 90 percent less than traditional CT scans), making it completely safe to undergo.
