Is Balloon Sinuplasty Right for Me?
posted: Feb. 07, 2023.
Balloon sinuplasty is performed by South Florida ENT Associates in Hollywood, FL, Weston, Pembroke Pines, Fort Lauderdale, and Boca Raton, FL. This is an FDA-approved procedure to open and restructure nasal passages that may help alleviate sinus pressure, headaches, fatigue, and congestion.
The process is similar to how a cardiologist would use balloon angioplasty to open blocked arteries.
What Is Involved in This Sinus Surgery Procedure?
During the procedure, your ENT doctor will insert a thin tube with a small balloon attached to it into your nasal passages directly into your sinus openings. Then, the balloon will inflate to open your blocked sinuses for seconds.
The procedure is performed in the office under sedation, with an Anesthesiologist by your side. Afterward, you will need to rest for 12 to 36 hours. This allows your body to recover from the procedure and prevent inflammation.
You can also take over-the-counter medication to ease the discomfort.
Why Choose To Undergo This Sinus Procedure?
If you suffer from chronic sinusitis and recurrent infections, your ENT doctor may recommend this procedure to help you breathe free. Clogged sinuses can impede breathing, causing headaches, jaw aches, sleeplessness, and more.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Sinus Surgery?
Many people with chronic sinus infections that don’t respond to over-the-counter medications or sinus treatments may seek a more permanent solution. Patients with a history of severe symptoms, frequent sinus infections, or if their sinus infection has been accompanied by other conditions such as heart disease or blood thinner use may benefit from this procedure.
These candidates will undergo a detailed evaluation in our office to ensure that this procedure is right for them.
How Can I Get Evaluated for This Procedure?
Getting evaluated is a great way to see whether sinus surgery is the proper treatment for you. Your ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist will evaluate your symptoms, take a complete history, perform a physical exam, and recommend the best treatment.
When you come in for an evaluation, our ENT team will perform a sinus CT scan to determine the severity of your condition and whether sinus surgery is right for you. Once we decide it is, we’ll recommend a treatment plan and explain your options.
