Find out how to get your allergy symptoms under control.
You know the symptoms: red, itchy eyes, a runny nose that just won’t quit and constant sneezing. It’s allergy season again! Our Pembroke Pines and Hollywood, FL, otolaryngologists Dr. David Jassir, Dr. Mark Sukenik and Dr. Sabine Hesse are here to provide a little insight into some of the best ways to reduce allergy flare-ups.
Preventing Allergy Symptoms
It’s important that your lifestyle caters a bit to your allergy symptoms and that you avoid the trigger or triggers whenever possible. Once you find out what you’re allergic to then you can figure out ways to avoid it. If you have outdoor allergies then you’ll want to check the weather reports before heading outdoors. During high grass, weed, mold or pollen counts you may want to wear a facemask while going outside or working in the yard.
You and your family members can also track allergens inside. This is why it’s important that you keep your home as clean as possible. Wipe down all surfaces often and make sure you are vacuuming all carpets, flooring and furniture at least once a week.
While we all know that you would rather just prevent allergy symptoms from surfacing, even the best-laid plans can be ruined when you step outside into a haze of pollen or visit your friend to find that she just adopted a cat. For these situations, it’s important that you have allergy medicine by your side to help you kick the symptoms fast.
If you only deal with mild symptoms then you may find that over-the-counter medications are all you need. This could be something as simple as eye drops, nasal sprays or an oral antihistamine. Of course, if your symptoms are more aggressive then you’ll need to turn to our Pembroke Pines and Hollywood, FL, ENT doctors for stronger medications. We can prescribe antihistamines, decongestants or a variety of allergy medications, depending on your symptoms. In severe cases, steroids may be recommended.
If you find that these medications just aren’t cutting it then you may want to talk to us about whether allergy shots might be able to help you finally get your symptoms under control.
